Idea of Democracy
︎Collaboration between Srishti Instititute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore and School of Democracy, Tilonia
︎Duration: December 2017
In our quest to make the world a better place, what was inhibiting our actions? Which significant call were we waiting for? Is it that we are afraid to lose our entitlement?
This collaborative project was highly specialized and shaped a lot of what I am today. As a group of twelve students, we had an opportunity to interact with democratic activists of ‘Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan’, understand their struggles, and document their stories in an audio format to later convert into a radio broadcast. Conversations with Aruna Roy, a political and social activist, best known for founding Mazdoor Kisaan Shakti Sangathan, along with fellow pioneers, Shankar Singh and Nikhil Dey and was instrumental in the fight for the right to information act gave all of us a fresh perspective of the recent times where rage, envy, greed, patriarchy, religious bigotry had permeated all public spheres and national debates.
"What essence does our education hold if we are indifferent to problems of the society? In the times where rage, envy, greed, patriarchy, religious bigotry had permeated all public spheres and national debates, who has the time to look at a poor family who goes to sleep on an empty stomach every night? "
